Cannot convert a linked presentation to a slide due to design.

Cause:

A linked object that is either a presentation or a slide cannot be converted into the other object type using the 'Convert' command.

Solution:

Embed the object, instead of linking it. Then it can be converted between the two different object types (presentation and slide).
NOTE: Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem.
